How To Deal With Pet Stains and Odors

Sad puppy on carpetEveryone who is a pet owner knows that dealing with pet stains and messes can be quite an issue at times, especially if you are still in the early pet-training stages.

Whether your dog made a mess while you were away at work, or your cat trailed messy litter out from the litter box, these types of messes can lead to unsightly stains on your carpet and unwanted smells throughout your home.

Attempt to Clean Them Yourself

There are a handful of ways to deal with pet urine stains and messes. For starters, you can always attempt to clean the mess yourself. There are a number of store-bought sprays and pet cleaning solutions that can be used to help treat these messes. While these special pet sprays can provide a temporary solution, they don't always guarantee effective removal of odors and staining caused by the mess. Ideally, you would want to clean the mess as soon as possible so as to avoid letting it set in to the fibers of your carpet and causing a stain. However, there may be times when you return from work to find your dog looking guilty, knowing that they made a mess and you don't know how long it's been sitting there.

Use a Home Remedy

Alternatively, you could come up with a home remedy to treat these types of stains. Many websites online will recommend the use of vinegar and baking soda to treat pet stains. While sometimes effective, the use of these types of chemical solutions may encourage your pet to reinforce the mess they made in the same spot. Additionally, if the urine has soaked its way into the padding underneath your carpet, you may even have to consider replacing a part of your carpet!

The most effective way to treat pet stains is to have the area professionally treated. Professional cleaners understand the intricacies involved in dealing with pet stains and can provide the proper odor treatment. Attempting to clean the stains yourself is usually not as practical or efficient as hiring a professional carpet cleaner. By having a professional provide a thorough cleaning and deodorization process, you'll have comfort in knowing that your carpets will be as clean as possible and odor-free!
